MCO Throwback #1: Our Home Garden

MCO, which is the acronym of Movement Control Order, is similar to what some other countries’ definition as lockdown, or circuit breaker. Some cheekily say it stands for “Must Come Office”, ^_^. This MCO has been put in place since 18 March 2020 and at this point in time, it is still enforced… Well this post is an extension to my previous post Hey COVID-19, Thanks to You… and this time, it’s about our home garden. I previously posted about our very own garden in this post Mini Garden @ Home… & Mini Garden @ Home… Part 2 back in year 2017 and another update Year 2019 Home Garden’s Produce in year 2019. Now it’s time for another update on what we have done to it during the MCO period…

First off, we have long planned to grow our own Passion Fruit tree as “some” of our kids love it.. therefore, a support structure is required for this climbing plant… so, with excess of bamboo sticks from last year’s Drama Competition Props (see blog post HY’s Drama Props (A Tribute to all) for more info) we built a stand for our mini garden… and since the soil from the garden kept sipping out, we also built a brick wall for it…

And now it has flourished to this… (Pic taken from another angle though)

Besides the support structure, we have also converted our old clothes hanger into, literally, plant hanger… we bought 3 air plants recently and it’s a breeze to care for.. just drench them with water, 2 times a day… and well, the 2 orchid plants have been with us for very long now.. and surprisingly (touch wood), it is still going strong now…

Now let’s look at some potted plants… basically these are main potted plants in our garden, and some of them like:

  1. Pomegranate – this has the longest history in our garden, which has something to do with our 3rd born child. Some flowers are blooming the slideshow below.. See Home Grown Pomegranate & Our Very Own Pomegranate & Newcomer Mulberry
  2. Pandan Leave – given by a friend’s mom
  3. Brazilian Spinah – given by Free Tree Society when we went hiking @ Taman Tugu Forest Trail.. Check them out at https://www.facebook.com/FreeTreeSociety/
  4. Cherry Tomato
  5. 田七 (Tián qī) – a kind of Ginseng Plant, got it from Sempah Farm

Then, let’s move on to the plants planted at the plot where the bamboo structure and the brick wall are…

  1. Passion Fruit – seeds given my another friend’s mom. The whole reason why we need the bamboo structure
  2. Curry Leaves
  3. Malabar Spinach
  4. Ladies Finger
  5. Basil Leaves
  6. Lemon Grass
  7. Aloe Vera

Last but not least, some potted plants not mentioned above….

All in all, it’s a very rewarding experience getting to spend time growing our garden with our loved ones… hope this post can serve as a motivation for you to start your own mini garden!

Signing off….
