Toying with Zentangle Art

Zentangle… my first impression of this word is entangled in the world of Zen… or something along the line where either you discover peace in yourself or you are so messed up that everything is so entangled… but after researching more, indeed there is a whole new world to this kind of art (pardon my ignorance and lack of knowledge in this field)..

Moving forward, Mommy joined the online Zentangle class organised by Tzu Chi KL Branch (Zentangle Art class is only one of the many educational webinars organised by Tzu Chi, like flower arrangement, photography, cooking, parenting, just to name a few)… So, Mommy started her Zentangle journey by visiting Bras Basah Complex (this used to be her hangout spot during her student days to shop for art materials)… So, we got to learn about:

  1. Tortillion (also a blending stump) = a cylindrical drawing tool, tapered at the end and usually made of rolled paper, used by artists to smudge or blend marks made with charcoal, pencil, other drawing utensils
  2. Sakura Pigma Micron 01 / 03 / 05 = Fine tip marker pen, water based, comes in different sizes with smaller number indicating a finer tip
  3. Zentangle Tile = a square tiles, cut out from a big drawing block
  4. Pencil = well, some uses Zentangle Pencil but basically, it’s similar to the exam grade 2B ~ 9B pencils

OK, enough introduction and let’s get on with the final product… generally, after attending few but very rewarding classes, Zentangle truly brings up the Zen in you and helps to destress and relax during the whole drawing session..

Mommy’s very first Zentangle piece

And in one of the classes, the 2 boys joined mommy… (Clockwise from left, Mommy, XY and HY’s artwork)…

And another class where the 2 boys joined the class by themselves… and produced a joint effort “masterpiece” ^_^

And some more in Mommy’s subsequent classes..

And at the end, our youngest princess also joined the bandwagon and came out with her own version of Zentangle Art… ^_^

And Finally…

Hope this post would help to kick start your very own Zentangle journey… a bit of initial investment in the beginning to buy the materials and perhaps taking part in some online courses to learn the basics.. thereafter, you can be very much on your own and your imagination is the limit to what you can draw… trust that YOU CAN DO IT!

All the best!!
